December Update

Dec 9th, 2009

What a fall season it's been!  It all started with the release of my fifth studio album "October Hill", followed by tour dates that have taken us from the far west of North America to the far south east of this massive continent.  It's been very busy, yet extremely rewarding as it's always a pleasure leading the Church in worship through song and sounds.  One of the highlights of our touring schedule was in Seattle where the band and I lead worship to an amazing bunch of people at the Experience Music Project.  The E.M.P. was built to pay tribute to the creativity in "pop" music and it was extraordinary to go into this place and release a sound of worship to the creator of all things.  The room that we played in was built by Paul Allen (formerly of Microsoft) for his blues band and was technically the best built room I think I have ever played in.  The Spirit of God said a great big "HELLO" to all of us that evening as we joined in song and acted on behalf of the poor in our financial giving.  I will never forget it and it looks like we're going to something similar in June....I can hardly wait!

Another fantastic event this past November that we were privileged to be a part of was called "The Pursuit" and was held in Medicine Hat, Alberta.  If I could describe this gathering in a passage of scripture, I would quote "Psalm 63."  Our flesh and souls cried out to God as we were reminded to live out our faith 24/7 and not just give God a time slot on Sunday mornings.  Medicine Hat and the believers there will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the first place I was ever asked to minister outside of my home church in Langley.  70 children from impoverished communities were sponsored during this weekend through our friends at "Compassion" which shows me that people are not just gathering to sing a song, but are willing to act out their worship in a practical way.  (Amos 5 and Isaiah 58, Galations 2:9,10)  The conference will be aired on "God TV" in the new year if you didn't get a chance to be there.

In family news, we recently packed up our home in Langley and headed to our new residence in Calgary, Alberta.  I have always loved the Canadian weather patterns and we weren't disappointed as during the first few days of our new life in Alberta, the snow, wind and bone chilling temperatures greeted us with a vengeance!  I loved it!  My father was raised in Alberta and it has always felt like another home to me.  We are now back in Langley for a few weeks and will be joining the pastoral team at First Assembly Church in Calgary (the founding church of the Tehillah Movement)  in January.  It's been a few years since I have been involved in a local community of believers leading worship and I am completely thrilled about this new transition.  The band and I will continue to travel abroad, yet we are all thrilled that we will now have a bit more time at home with our families.

It's now time to rest with family and friends, reflecting on the greatest birth in history.  To all of you have supported us in prayer, by coming out to the events, by your gifts, or by purchasing our music in 2009, thanks very much from all of us at Flood Songs!

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2010 to all of you!

Blessings,

Michael
